I begin a one-year leave of absence from the Board of Governors to take up a position as Visiting Advisor to the Research Department at the International Monetary Fund. Some variety in professional life without even having to change metro stops.

I begin a two-year term as the newly elected president of the Society for Computational Economics this month. I am gratified by the expression of confidence that the executive of the Society has shown in asking me to run and in the membership in electing me.

My Comment on a very capable paper (even though I have reservations with it) by Bob Arnold of the CBO is published in the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review. The subject--the best way to measure and project potential output--is regarded by many economists as a dry one. Too bad it is so important. I encourage everyone to peruse the entire issue which is available here.
